Peak+Hold from CG Products combines a preamp, gate extractor, envelope follower, envelope generator, and a unique sample and hold circuit that samples the audio input based on the level of the input signal. The 1/4 input jack acts as the module's main input and works great with drum machines or with the included piezo pickup. The piezo disc acts as a contact mic, perfect for attaching to drums, cymbals, or even non-traditional percussive sources like metal or wood. A specialized filter circuit allows you to fine tune how the module responds to both frequency content and the decay of input signals. The module uses the signal present at the drum inputs or the in2 jack to create nine output signals. The Audio jack amplifies the input signal, allowing you to send it to other parts of your eurorack system. The module generates two kinds of envelopes. The Envelope Out jack is an envelope follower, which outputs an envelope based on the amplitude of the input signal. When the input amplitude passes above a threshold set by the Trigger knob, the module generates a pulse. This pulse triggers the two additional envelopes. The release knob sets the falling portion of the exponential and logarithmic envelopes. The Trigger signal also drives the module's Peak and Hold circuit. This circuit samples the input signal when it passes above that threshold and outputs the highest voltage. This voltage remains at a constant level until it receives another trigger, at which point it outputs the new highest input amplitude. In addition to the primary Peak and Hold output, the module also outputs an inverted copy and a logarithmically shaped version. An additional impulse provides a variable width trigger signal whose amplitude is based on the input signal. Use this impulse to trigger envelopes/function generators or ping filters/delays. Peak+Hold is a great way to bring external signals into your eurorack system, but goes above and beyond many other input modules by greatly increasing the number of outputs derived from the input signal.
