For those looking to impart classic Buchla 100 Series VCAs into their Eurorack modular synthesizer setup, Catalyst Audio has just the solution. The Model 110 is a quad VCA module whose circuits are controlled via potentiometers and/or CV inputs. The initial third of the control range is exponential but changes to linear and then logarithmic as the knob is turned. The upmost portion of the range imparts lovely saturation. Of course, all of this is accomplished without vactrols, as the original 100 Series did not make use of them. This transistor-based design affords a quick response time that is perfect for structuring percussive sounds. Beyond that, the Model 110 can achieve AM at audio rates.
