Cascade Microphones Fat Head II Active/Passive

A first-of-its-kind design, the Fat Head II Active/Passive lets you use a phantom-powered active mode or traditional passive mode at a flick of a switch. Typical passive ribbon design works great for high-gain preamps and micing up loud cabs or drums, while phantom powered designs usually work best for low-gain preamps and getting delicate recordings. Ribbon mics, due to their design, are often stuck in passive modes, but Cascade have created a unique circuit that gives you the benefit of phantom power without losing the characteristic ribbon feel.

The Active portion of the mic uses a carefully adjusted JFET amplifier which is hand-matched to offer high volume with low noise and low current. The ribbon's load was chosen by simply listening and was designed to have an open top-end while balancing the bass. Additionally, the ribbon is interfaced through a Lundahl LL2913 mic transformer. Being able to switch effortlessly from the hefty gain of an active mic, to the quieter gain of a passive at the flick of a switch is a true delight and there is protection circuit, as well, just in case you forget to turn off the 48V. Versatile and well-round, the Fat Head II Active/Passive is the best of both worlds.
