AT1 Modular CBD 2399

CBD 2399—a collaboration between AT1 and Musik Arbeiter—is an experimental delay module designed for maximum grit and texture. A reimagining of AT1's earlier PT2399-based delay, this version strays from the echo-and-reverb view of what a delay is for and pushes instead toward repetition as something very play-able with blissfully break-able.

At the core of CBD 2399 is a carefully modified PT2399 chip, yielding four distinct modes, selectable via a pair of toggle switches or CV. The first two are different flavours of distortion—one tame and one on the aggressive side. The other two are genuinely experimental: a triggerable tremolo with unstable pitch modulation, and what the makers call "percussive mode"—where the audio signal seems to get splintered and implode. The effects can be activated either via the Ext. Gate input or internally, with the Rate parameter setting the speed. Distortion and experimental modes can be stacked or bypassed, which widens the palette considerably.

To round things off (or rough them up), CBD 2399 features a pair of 2-pole AS2164 filters, resonant all the way up to self-oscillation and connected in series for more explicit frequency curve sculpting. Each has its own frequency and resonance controls and can be independently set to low-pass or high-pass. Time, feedback, and both filter frequencies each get a dedicated CV input with an attenuator. There's a Freeze function too, accessed via a button or CV, which locks a segment of the audio at the moment of initiation. When used with CV, Freeze responds to the dynamics of the control voltage rather than simply latching, rendering it a rather expressive feature. If you're looking for creative delay processing in Eurorack, don't miss CBD 2399 from AT1.

CBD 2399 Features

  • Circuit-bent PT2399 delay with four selectable modes: two distortion voicings and two experimental effects
  • Triggerable tremolo and percussive modes, fired from the Ext. Gate input or internally via the Rate control
  • Distortion and experimental modes can be stacked and bypassed
  • CV control over Time, Feedback, and Frequency cutoff of both filters—each with its own attenuator
  • Dynamic Freeze function via panel button or CV, responding to voltage level rather than simply latching
