Continua from AC Noises is a sampler and multi-effect pedal perfect for creating ambient textures that respond in real time to your playing. With an always-on buffer constantly listening in the background, Continua captures your playing and resets its sampled sound in response to your playing amplitude, allowing you to strum through chords with immediate ambient accompaniment. Beyond merely capturing fragments of your live audio, Continua offers numerous ways to shape and expand these sampled tones, including tempo controls, repitching, sustain, freeze, glitch effects, downsampling, filtering, and more. Your dry signal can also enter into the fun, with flexible routing options for keeping things clear amidst the haze of mangled audio or processing the dry signal through Continua's multi-effects.

Despite the complex world of sound it can create, controlling Continua is quite simple. The Mix knob adjusts the balance of dry and wet signals. Beyond this, the next three knobs adjust behavior of the dynamic sampling, with Tempo controlling the speed of repeats, a Pitch knob that introduces octave, fifth, and random pitch shifts, and finally Sustain, which controls how long repeats will iteratively evolve before decaying down to silence. Tempo can also be controlled via Tap Tempo for real time foot control, and Sustain is capable of fully freezing the audio buffer beyond 90% of its travel. Below the large main knobs, four trimpots provide controls for the multi-effects processing in Continua. Each trimpot offers different results to either side of noon, giving you a wide range of effects to explore including glitchy tempo variations, multi-layered rhythmic dimensions, lo-fi signal degrading and bitcrushing, reverb, diffusion, and both low and high pass filters. Using the toggle switches, a number of settings can be adjusted that control how you interact with the pedal. The first controls the capabilities of the Auxiliary footswitch, the second adjusts input format and preset saving/recall, and the third changes the repeats mode for standard, reverse, or tails-only repeats.

Further controls are available in secondary control mode, including routing the dry signal to the multi-effects, sensitivity of the dynamic sampling, and attack / release envelopes for the repeats. In the trimpots, secondary effects include a threshold for sampling, modulation for Lofi and Crush effects, decay for Reverb and Smear effects, and stereo width of the repeats. Further settings for MIDI, audio output and bypass mode are available using the toggle switches.
